One of the greatest sculptors of the 20th century, Ivan Mestrovic!

He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. He was born in a rural catholic family in Slavonia, and grew up in the home village of his parents Otavice in Dalmatia. His religiosity formed under the influence of folk religiosity, the bible and the late Leo Tolstoy. In 1961 he was appointed to the science and art of the Republic of Austria.

He died in 1962 in South Bend, Indiana in the United States, and was buried in his native country, according to his last wish. He was and remains among the biggest sculptors of religious motifs from the renaissance to today.
